Invest in Yourself
Okay, before we start can we take a minute? Just a minute, I promise.
This year has been a doozy *sigh* and it’s not even over yet. How are we going to make it to 2021? The next few months feel very uncertain and I don’t know that anyone has the correct answer. *sigh again*
Well, minute’s over. Now what?
Investing in Yourself
Yep, that’s right. We need to invest in ourselves – we’re our biggest ally, our biggest success, so why wouldn’t we pick ourselves?
Oh wait, society says that’s selfish…
Well ladies and gents, society is wrong. Picking yourself, investing in yourself, is NOT selfish. In order for us to grow, to achieve and create, we need to pick ourselves and prioritize our needs. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, picking yourself gives you the strength and opportunity to help pick others. You can’t pour from an empty cup, folks.
How Can I Invest in Myself?
Investing in yourself can look different for everyone, so start by asking yourself what you need. Do I need something essential; do I need something comforting? Determine what you need and go from there.
Needs can be practical, like showering or needing to create a financial budget, and needs can be personal, like spending time with family or needing to process feelings. Regardless of what you’re needing, you fulfill that need by prioritizing yourself.
Some examples of investing in yourself are:
Taking a nap
Spending time with yourself
Going for a walk
Trying a new recipe
Creating a financial budget
Listening to music
Reading a book
Making a to-do list
Taking a bath
Spending time with family or friends
Learning a new skill
Watching your favorite movie
Trying a new hobby
Going to the gym
Making your favorite meal
Splurging on something you’ve been wanting to buy
Investing in yourself is a way for you to recharge, reconnect, and refocus on what YOU need.
Why Does This Matter?
Remember when we took a minute in the beginning? That’s why. The world, just like our lives, is unpredictable. How is it even possible to assume that we’re capable of change if we’re not even capable of taking care of ourselves? Again, you can’t pour from an empty cup.
In order to best adapt to the changes and bumps in the road, you’ll need to be fresh and steady.
Investing in yourself is a form of self-care. Investing in yourself is a form of resilience. Investing in yourself matters. When you invest in yourself, you’re investing in your future success and your future happiness. Remind yourself that when you pick yourself, you’re more equipped to pick others. It’s not selfish, it’s not foolish, it’s self-care.
