The Resolve team proudly partners with universities and programs in the Kansas City area to help equip the next generation of mental health professionals! Since the internship program started, it has more than doubled in size, and is consistently evolving to best meet the needs of students seeking direct clinical experience.

FAQ

What is the difference between an intern and a clinician at Resolve?

  • The main difference is that interns are able to see clients at a reduced rate. An intern is someone in their final phase of their graduate program (social work, counseling, or psychology). They receive weekly supervision with a licensed clinician.

What are the components of an internship at Resolve? What benefits or practice opportunities are offered to graduate students?

  • Facilitate individual, couples, and group therapy sessions

  • One hour of individual supervision per week and one hour of group supervision per month

  • Opportunities for additional training experiences to better equip yourself with different treatment modalities such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, addictions, grief/trauma work, play therapy, and more

  • On-call support for any issues that surface during your work day in real-time

  • Opportunities for professional development via blog writing and professional presentations

  • One free session per month with a licensed clinician at Resolve

  • Exam study groups held once a month by licensed professionals who have taken the exams

Types of clientele? (i.e. Children, Adolescent, Adult, Family)

  • Resolve Counseling and Wellness provides a broad range of clientele experiences. Graduate interns see adolescents, adults, families, and groups, as well as children 8 years of age and older.

Is there an opportunity to lead or co-lead group therapy?

  • There are several opportunities to facilitate and co-facilitate group therapy. We lead treatment groups on-site at Resolve, as well as in local churches, schools, and transitional living facilities, for both adolescent and adult populations.

How many intern openings do you have?

  • Please contact our Intern Program Director, Ja’lynn Montgomery, with questions regarding openings.

Describe the application/interview process.

  • We request that you submit a professional resume with your educational background, work experience, at least 2 references, and contact information. After your resume is reviewed, you will receive some initial interview questions to answer via e-mail, and based on your responses you may be contacted for a final, in-person interview.

What are the scheduling requirements?

  • Resolve offers flexible hours, meeting the needs of students who may have less traditional work hours available.  We can work with your schedule to find the days and times that work best for you to see clients, with the requirements being that you have at least 1 (4 hours) evening or weekend available on a weekly basis, attend the individual and monthly group supervision meetings, and fulfill all of your graduate program’s hour expectations.

We look forward to meeting you and discussing what Resolve can offer you as you begin your careers as therapists!
