Do This Activity to End the Year

Reflection is a necessary part of growth. It enhances meaning from our experiences and highlights our accomplishments. Reflection can event relieve tension and provide closure.

The end of the year feels like a natural time to reflect. I’ve put together a reflection activity that you can write, share in conversation or just think to yourself. My hope is that at the end of this activity you feel a sense of renewal and re-energized for the new year.

Who were the top 5 people you spent the most time with?
Where did you travel?
What was the biggest change this year brought you?
What is something you’re proud of from this year?
What is something new you started this year?
What were your top stressors?
What is something you finished or let go of this year?
What is something you wanted to do but didn’t do?
What were your biggest sources of energy?
What is a lesson learned?
What is one word to describe this year?

If you could tell your January 2019 self something, what would it be?

Now that you’ve finished. Let’s reflect on the reflection. I call this meta-reflection.
Are there any themes or meanings you took away?
How will this direct your upcoming year?
If you could tell your December 2020 something what would it be?

I encourage you to share this with your friends and family and get their answers.

Happy New Year!
